Weekly Reflection #18 - Ship with Confidence (For real, this time)
Each week, I share one insight. One piece of wisdom. One question to reflect on. (and a little Lagniappe)
Insight
After 18 years in tech, I've come to a realization that's been hiding in plain sight: my tagline "ship with confidence" was never a metaphor.
I'm pivoting rojoroboto to maritime logistics consulting, effective immediately. Container orchestration, continuous delivery, optimizing for flow: I've been training for this my entire career without realizing it.
Time to batten down the hatches.
Wisdom
“He who lets the sea lull him into a sense of security is in very grave danger.” — Hammond Ines
Reflection
Every sailor must master the bowline, but there are so many knots to learn. What knot have you been putting off practicing?
Lagniappe
- Next week in Book Overflow: Carter and I review Herman Melville's Moby Dick as a cautionary tale about monolithic architecture and the dangers of a single-threaded obsession.
- Debug Mode is moving to a new format — we'll be holding office hours on the deck of a decommissioned cargo ship in Puerto Limón.
- I'm launching a new course: From CI/CD to Sea Eyes, See Thee. Six weeks. You will leave knowing port from starboard and staging from production.
- As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Reply and let me know what resonates, or what's making you seasick.
